A hot water heater, by its very name, is a device designed to heat hot water.
Which raises several important questions.
Who decided the water had to be hot BEFORE we heated it?
Is there a cold water heater that heats cold water?
Because shouldn’t it actually be called a cold water heater?
And if I install a hot water heater in someone’s home, am I actually installing a device that heats water that’s already hot?
Because if that’s the case, I’ve been doing this handyman thing all wrong for years.
I’ve been installing hot water heaters when I should have been installing preheated water enhancement systems.
The fact that we call it a hot water heater when, technically, it’s heating COLD water to make it hot.
It’s a water heater – A WATER HEATER!
I don’t go to the refrigerator to get cold ice.
I don’t put on my winter coat to stay cold.
I don’t put a hot dog on the grill that’s already hot either.
And I don’t go to the ATM machine to get money from the automatic teller machine machine.
Wait a minute.
Never mind that last one.
Apparently, we’re all guilty of this stuff.
But seriously, why do we insist on calling it a hot water heater?
And more importantly…
WHAT’S BEEN HEATING MY HOT WATER ALL THESE YEARS?
