You’re welcome

I use this blog to entertain myself.

If you read some of the things I write, then I appreciate you taking the time.

Sometimes I feel it my duty to not only entertain myself, but also to inform you, the reader.

See, there are things you might not be aware of.  Things that you never know, you might need to be aware of.

Whether it be in course of you living day to day, but you also might find yourself on the set of Jeopardy and then – THEN – these little tidbits of knowledge might come in handy.

I came across a few things that I did not know.

Now I know what you are thinking, “But Jim, you seem to know so many things and I am often in awe of the obscure facts you post”.

I appreciate that.

And – there’s more.

As with many of my posts, I’ll number them.  Not to assign an order to them of importance, but to separate them to make it easier for you, the reader, to read.

1 – Whales are the biggest creatures on the earth.  And they live to be anywhere from 50-90 years, depending on the species.  But they don’t actually die of old age, per se.  Rather, they just lose the strength to carry themselves to the surface for air and they slowly sink and then die.

2 – It’s something we all have done.  All of us.  And yet, we walk away unscathed.  Sure, we might be pissed, but often we accomplish the task and we leave the scene.  Sadly, many do not.  Around 30 people per year die due to a vending machine falling on them as they shake the machine to free their stuck item.  30 people a year.

3 – And here we thought they were just innocent and beautiful creatures.  Not quite.  Evil in them does exist.  We go about our lives not knowing strange facts and then – BOOM – your entire world is shattered.  Your entire belief system begins being questioned.  Like, “OH MY GOD – WHAT ELSE?”.  It turns out that a butterfly landing on you is not as innocent and as picturesque as you might think.  See, butterflies have been know to drink human blood.  I use drink, because blood is a liquid, but since the butterfly is doing it for food, I guess you could say they eat human blood.

4 – Often in these turbulent times we feel stressed.  And sometimes the stress is more than other times.  Sometimes the stress seems overwhelming, yet even in stressful times, there are things that you, hopefully, would not do.  As a parent, sometimes these kids drive you crazy and have you stressed out.  Thank God we aren’t rabbits.  See, when a rabbit is stressed, they might actually eat their young.  I’ll just leave that at that.

5 – I’ll combine two different obscure facts here.  The law of averages does say that: a) during your lifetime, if you are an average person, you will talk to 16 murderers.  Now, these might not be long meaningful discussions, they might just be an exchange of words as you hold open a door for someone, or someone holds open a door for you, but it’s an exchange of words just the same. And b) you are more likely to be bitten by a person in NYC than be bitten be a shark.  So, I suggest before you take another trip to see a Broadway show, you watch “Jaws” and then go to NYC.

Just 2 more …..

6 – we all know that in any active crime scene the police and/or detectives dust for fingerprints.  Why?  Well, as you know, each fingerprint is unique to each individual.  BUT – then again, so is a human’s butt hole.  YUP – as unique are your fingerprints, so is your butthole.  Like earlier – I’ll leave that as that.

7 – The vitamin industry in the United States is huge.  And many people, millions of people, take Vitamin A supplements.  And if paying money for a vitamin supplement to get more vitamin A isn’t something you want to do, you might eat foods that help you get more Vitamin A, like carrots, potatoes and spinach.  Or, perhaps you might eat animal products such as liver, eggs or dairy.  See, in animal-based diets, organ meat carries a very concentrated level of Vitamin A.  BUT – and if you get nothing else from this post – heed this warning, if you are in a posh restaurant that offers unique and hard to get foods from various places around the world, stick to the duck liver, DO NOT eat Polar-Bear liver.  See, Polar Bear liver contains enough Vitamin A to kill 52 adults.

Calf liver ok.

Duck liver ok.

Chicken liver ok.

Polar Bear liver NOT ok.

  1. #4 I know that to be true. We used to have rabbits when we lived in the country and one year the mama had a whole lot of them at once. She ended up eating some! #7 I heard about polar bear liver being toxic from my brother who learned it when he was in the Marine Corp. For some reason I never forgot that even though I doubt I will ever find myself in a position to eat Polar bear liver 🤣
