Everybody Wang Chung Tonight !!!

It appears there will be a new job hitting the NFL soon.

There are some jobs in the NFL that you might not know about.

I didn’t know that every NFL team had dentists on the sidelines for game days.  But that makes sense.

While not employed by a team, there is a guy on the sidelines when it’s time, will put on orange gloves (orange so they are easily visible) letting the refs know that the next stoppage is a TV timeout.

NFL teams all employ a team Chaplain.

I have heard the job title, “Quality Control” on the coaching side of things, but didn’t really know at meant.  But then in writing this post, I wanted to find out.

*Side Note 1 – You’re welcome in advance.

Turns out “Quality Control” personnel perform numerous tasks.  They don’t have much of an on-field presence, but operate as an extra set of ears and eyes for the coaching staff.  They also help make sure teams and specific position groups stay on practice schedule.  They also provide additional insight and consult with position coaches, offensive and defensive coordinators and the Head Coach.

These Quality Control people also spend a lot of time in the film rooms to try and find trends and ways to exploit opponents.

*Side Note 2 – Sounds like low paying grunt work to me.

*Side Note 3 – Sign me up !!!

All NFL teams also have seamstresses who alter and repair uniforms, many on game days in the rooms adjacent to the locker rooms.

Now – all those positions are needed and warranted.  I see the value in each of them.

In watching the NFL games lately I am convinced there is a new position about to be offered by NFL teams.  And once you hear it and you pay attention to NFL games, you’ll see that I’m seeing the inevitable future.

Pretty soon, maybe even next season, there will be a paid position offered by an NFL team for a ……. Wait for it ……. Touchdown Celebration Choreographer.

Have you seen the touchdown celebrations lately?

NFL teams are taking touchdown celebrations to a whole new level, actually reenacting dance scenes from movies.

Now, I’m not against a touchdown celebration, but, in my very humble opinion, I’d rather they actually work on plays than devote all this time to a touchdown celebration?

Think about it, one guy scores a touchdown, then all the other teammates take part in this very practiced routine.  And just how much time are these guys spending practicing these routines?

Does each guy have a routine?

There are maybe what, 5 or 6 skill positions per teams that have the best chance to score, so does that mean a teammate has to learn 6 different routines to take part in the touchdown celebration in order to take part?

And are these celebrations called in the huddle?

What if you have a significant part in a touchdown celebration, but you are on the sideline due to an injury the play before?  Are there backups and understudies for the role each plays in these touchdown celebrations?

I do think it won’t be long before an NFL team hires a “Touchdown Celebration Choreographer”

Tell me I’m wrong.

And while we’re on the NFL celebrations, I do have one complaint, something that annoys me.

If a teams is down by 15 points, with 3 minutes to play, and that team is on defense and they get a sack.  Enough with the acting like you just made the best play in the history of football.

YEAH!!!!  You got a sack.  You’re also down by 3 scores with 3 minutes left and the other team has the ball.

Why didn’t you make this super-human play in the 1st quarter when it might have made a difference?

But back to the touchdown celebrations …..

I know the NFL is not only football and sports, but it also does have a high entertainment value.

So I say, if they are going to do this touchdown celebration thing, then take to the next level.

Bring in professional assistance and choreographers and coordinators.

Maybe even have mini stages and sets on wheels that they can wheel out in the endzone when the team scores.

Why not have props and HEY – why not grab fans out of the stands to take part?

If they are going to do it – let’s do it right.

I think a petition is in order.
