Sometimes I’m asked, “Jim, how do you come up with these truly remarkable and well thought ideas?”
Well, I don’t know.
Now, when I say I am “sometimes asked”, I might not actually “be asked”, but I know the person wants to ask me this question, so I just take it for granted that the question has been asked.
I’m a big fan of the BOGO – you know, “buy one get one”.
I’m also a big fan of the 2-for. You know, where you can buy one for 1 price, and then get a 2nd one for a slightly lower price.
With that pricing strategy, I also like seeing a car wash that has a price for a single wash and then a price for a monthly fee with unlimited washes.
I have never lived close enough to one of these car washes to take advantage of this program.
But I like the idea.
Riding back to our Florida place last night on the way home from a fabulous day at Disney, I passed just such a car wash and I had a thought.
*Side Note 1 – Usually my thoughts occur when I’m in the kitchen, usually while making bacon, but hey, I had a thought and I rolled with it.
Last week I had a hair cut.
It was a scheduled hair cut from my usual hair cut person.
She does a great job for me. All three Sumstine ladies also go there.
So much like a family doctor, she is our family hair stylist.
Now me, I don’t get my hair ‘styled’, at this point in my life, I’m just happy to have hair.
But the Sumstine ladies do get more than just a hair cut.
I get my hair cut every 5 weeks. When I am at the counter paying for my hair cut, I schedule my next one.
I was on a 6 week rotation, but that 6th week seems to be my hair’s version of ‘jumping the shark’, it just got too long.
5 weeks seems to be the best cycle.
But in seeing a car wash with a price for 1 wash and a price for unlimited washes for month, it got me thinking.
You know where this is going right?
Sure you do.
What if my hair cut place, R. Sterling Hair Boutique in Lewes, DE, offered unlimited hair cuts for a monthly fee?
I know I know …. Scheduling would be difficult.
If you want to get in all the time, you might not get the hair stylist of your choosing, that would be expecting too much. To get a specific hair stylist, you would still, most likely, need to schedule their time in advance.
For this unlimited service, you might be in a beginner’s chair. And that’s fine.
I’m sure this beginner has taken classes and has graduated from an accredited school to learn to cut hair and is schooled in the proper hygiene requirement that the trade demands.
But that being a given, I’m sure this new person would be completely backed up all the time.
In signing up for this service, it would be understood, that there will be some wait time involved.
I’d be foolish to think that I could walk right in, sit right down and have my hair cut right away.
I live in a society that knows how to wait their turn.
The details would be in the legal part of the contract you sign and sign up for.
So, I issue this challenge to all the hair cut places out there.
I know there are many details that need to be sorted out.
But like other great idea posts, I’m here to introduce the ideas.
I leave the details for the professionals.
2025 will be “The Year of Endless Ideas”.
You’re welcome in advance.
