Santa Claus ….. The Easter Bunny ….. The Tooth Fairy ….
See, these are plausible. Believable even.
As a young boy growing up in the 60s and 70s, I was raised in a culture to believe in things that I couldn’t understand.
But I knew it.
I just knew it.
If Santa Claus didn’t exist – explain all the toys left under the Christmas tree.
If the Easter Bunny didn’t exist – explain the basket full of chocolate eggs and candy.
*Side Note 1 – I did, however, always question why The Easter Bunny always left a Chocolate Bunny – I felt that a bit cannibalistic, but then again, maybe he had limited time to create these chocolate confections and had to pattern them after himself, kind of in tribute.
And the Tooth Fairy – come on now. Buying teeth? Who in the world would buy teeth?
Her – that’s who.
But now I am beginning to question things.
I saw something recently.
I saw something that’s made me question things I thought possible and now I just don’t know.
I’m thinking Hollywood has been lying to me.
Seems the mosquito that got buried in Amber and was used to create dinosaurs not only didn’t happen – but couldn’t happen.
But I don’t buy into conspiracy theories.
I thought maybe what I read was deliberately trying to fool me into thinking I had been fooled.
So I dug a bit into it on my own.
Ok – here’s what I found out.
Point 1 – DNA breaks down, even under ideal conditions completely in about 1-2 Million years.
Point 2 – Dinosaurs went extinct about 66 million years ago.
So this dinosaur DNA captured by a mosquito that contained the blood that was used to create these dinosaurs couldn’t have survived.
MIND OFFICIALLY BLOWN !!!
What was Hollywood thinking?
Did they think I was just going to believe them?
Did they think I wouldn’t use my powers of deductive reasoning to figure them out?
And did they think I wouldn’t expose them?
See, time aside of the DNA not being usable, I looked into what happens when I mosquito bites something and ingests blood.
When a mosquito feeds, it breaks down blood quickly for the nutrients.
The DNA in blood is broken down almost immediately.
Thus, by the time the mosquito is “trapped” by the amber, the dinosaur DNA wouldn’t be capable of being used to create a dinosaur.
You might be reading this thinking that I go through life believing everything I see and read.
NOPE !!!
Not at all.
See, I know reality versus fantasy.
I knew then that Bugs Bunny And the Roadrunner were not real.
These were cartoons.
DUH …..
No way the Roadrunner could run through a stone wall that had a road painted on it.
Jeesh ……..
But Hollywood, I’m onto you.
I might have to rethink things.
