Blinded Me

Of course ….. with science …..

Sometimes I see or hear things and it makes me think, “Wow – how did I not know that?”

Like this ……

I’ve always liked the group Foreigner.

In a post several years ago, I wrote about a few different bands and how they came up with their name as a band.

The band Foreigner chose that name because there were 6 members, three from  America and 3 from great Britian, and no matter where they went, at least three members would always be a foreigner.

I’m sure you read that post, but a reminder never hurts.

I just found out another thing about Foreigner that I didn’t know.

I heard a song and I was trying to figure out what year it came out.

When it comes to the 80s music genre, I can usually get within a year or two by trying to remember what grade I was in when the song came out.

I heard “Urgent” and I knew it was on the album “4” and I thought 1982.  I knew it was before my senior year so decided it was 1982.

But, I was wrong, that song came out in 1981.

SO CLOSE !!!!!

As I read the Google info about Urgent, I learned that John “Mutt” Lange was the producer and I knew he produced many of their songs, such as one of my favorite Foreigner songs, “Juke Box Hero”.

So, reading about the song “Urgent”, another name struck out.

It seems a young up-and-coming technician was behind the signature synthesizer  sound.

That young synthesizer technician …. Thomas Dolby.

HOW DID I NOT KNOW THAT !!!!

You know, Thomas Dolby, the guy that had the one hit, “Blinded Me With Science”.

Now, Thomas Dolby was also a bit of a song writer himself and he was in the Mutt Lunge orbit and had written a song called “Urges”. It appears that “Urges” did play into the writing of “Urgent”.

So now you know.

And again, if you are ever on Jeopardy and you win Final Jeopardy by answering, “Who is Thomas Dolby?”, I’d appreciate a shoutout.
