I Like to Read.

And as we get ready to go to Florida and a trip to Disney, I’m looking forward to maybe (MAYBE) going to the Hall of Presidents.

I don’t know how many times I’ve been to Disney and The Magic Kingdom, yet, I’ve not done this attraction.

I couldn’t bring myself to put my daughter’s through what they would call, “Selective Child Abuse”.

I do recall one family outing we had……

Ok – close your eyes and picture your screen in a circular and wavy motion as you travel back in time……

“MOM – he’s doing it again !!!”

I hear that a lot.

We go places and sometimes they are quasi-educational, and I like to read to signage and the exhibits.

The 4 Sumstines took a road trip a few years ago, and one of the places we visited was the Coke Museum in Atlanta.

*Side Note 1 – it’s not actually called the Coke Museum, it’s called “World of Coca-Cola”

They had me at the beginning and I was fascinated by the history of coke and the ‘museum’.  The exhibition has a time sequenced history.  Lots of the display items have signs depicting what they are and describing the item portrayed.

LOTS of informative signs, and I wanted to read them.

Yes, I wanted to read all of them.

ALL.  OF.  THEM.

But after a while, the ladies just wanted to get to the gift shop and the tasting room at the end.

So I told them I’d meet them there, go on ahead.

I meandered, I perused, I strolled and I stopped to read the signs and educate myself on the history of Coke

Constantly being told by those less interested in the educational aspect of it all, “Come on Dad.”

Little did I know that they had left all their purses in the room or car, (I forget), and I, being a guy that always has his wallet on him, was the only one in possession of monetary ability to purchase anything.

*Side Note 2 – “Monetary ability” ?  Um….. ok, I’ll go with that.

But it was too much.

They kept backtracking to find me and hurry me along.

I was taking too long.

Charlotte came to get my wallet and while I was still trying to read all of the displays and exhibits, I was being ushered along.

I’d meet them at the tasting room.

The tasting room is cool, lots of different cokes from all over the world with their various changes to the original formula to try and to sample.

I read my last display that I could and as I entered the tasting room, they were done.

I got a taste or two of different cokes from around the world.  But I also wanted to keep up.

I didn’t get to do much tasting.

On to the gift shop

See, they had my wallet.

CURSES – I had given them my wallet.  I had given up my once element of control.

I had to make sure they didn’t spend all of my cash and use all of our available cash on the debit cards buying coke paraphernalia.

Phew, made it just in time……

A little damage done.

If you’re ever in Atlanta with time to spend, check out The World of Coca-Cola.

I also like to read the signs on the Disney Epcot attraction, “Living With the Land”

GREAT attraction.  You ride a boat of sorts which leads you through the attraction and you learn stuff.

*Side Note 3 – HIP HIP HORRAY FOR EDUCATION !!!!

LOTS of cool stuff to see and learn about.

*Side Note 4 – NOT the favorite attraction of the Sumstine Sisters.

I love it.

The boat has a leisurely pace so you can’t get stuck on one particular area, which is fine for the sisters, but I would like some additional time to see the plants they have.

Oh, and another cool place to not only visit, but also learn stuff:

The Herr’s Snack and Factory Tour in Nottingham PA

Super cool stuff.

You get a short movie presentation of the history of Herr’s Chips and it’s founder and then it’s off to the plant itself.

And YES I did.

Yes I did completely annoy the sisters by actually asking questions of the tour guide when she would ask periodically, “Does anyone have any questions?”.

I could actually feel their eyes rolling

I was curious and I wanted even more knowledge of the potato and the potato chip industry.

See, I wanted to know why, in the 1990’s you couldn’t buy Herr’s Chips in the Baltimore area.

*Side Note 5 – she did know the answer.  I don’t recall the exact reason, but it was something to do with the trucking industry and a licensing agreement.

See, why go a tour to learn stuff if you aren’t there to learn stuff?

Well, see, at the end of the tour, you get to eat chips brought to you on a try right off the assembly line.

VERY good chips.  Still warm.

Back to The Hall of Presidents

I understand that this attraction doesn’t have signs to read, it’s an informative history told to you by images of these Presidents.

CAN’T WAIT !!!!

As you may have read, I have a post from months ago about the best napping spots in Disney.

The Hall of Presidents isn’t on that list.  I’ve not done that attraction.

The 1st time I see it, there’s no napping.

The 1st time is to watch the attraction.

But maybe the 2nd time.

  1. Just the other day we took out granddaughter to St. Augustine. There are some cool museums there and I wanted to stop and read everything , but my granddaughter did not care for any of that learning ! I had the same trouble when my kids were young. We would go to places and they liked looking but God forbid they stop long enough to read and learn the history. I hope you enjoy your trip to Disney. I live right over on the Space Coast of Florida and have only been to Disney twice in 24 years and that was years ago before it became outrageously expensive. I can’t justify spending that much now just to ride the train and “it’s a small world”. You can sleep on the train by the way 🤣
