Death and Taxes

Seems that is the only two things that are certain.

Or is it?

Nope – there is one more thing that is constant, and dare I say, certain.

Yes, certain.

I’m a person of habit.

I like certain things done certain ways.

But I am also adventuresome.

I’ll try new things.

And often, when trying these new things, I’ll compare them to my traditional stand-by.

Sometimes better, sometimes not up to the task, but I do enjoy the variety.

Let’s take pizza.

All pizza is both entirely different and yet, kind of, entirely the same.

The idea of a pizza is a round pizza with a tomato sauce and cheese.  Sure, you might have toppings, or just cheese, but for the most part, when I say the word ‘pizza’ you get a mental image of what a pizza is and what a pizza isn’t.

Many places are also now serving squared or rectangular pizzas.

Some places are serving stuffed crusts.

And there are even different type of pizza: Chicago, New York and even brick Oven

All similar, yet all different.

Sauce is different.  Vastly different from place to place.

You can even get the white pizza, you know, no read sauce.

Cheese, while mostly mozzarella, is also different from place to place.

Even the toppings are different.

One place we used to frequent slices their pepperoni thin, while another places slices theirs quite thick.

And still other places have real small round slices of pepperoni.

*Side Note 1 – I tend to like the smaller sliced pepperoni, not in thickness, but in diameter.

Sauce, crusts, toppings, cheeses ….. all seem different from place to place.

Remember the title of this post, “Death and Taxes” as the only constants?

Nope – there is one other constant.

Black olives as a pizza toppings.

Always black circles with a hole in the middle.

All more or less the same circumference and all more or less the same thickness.

Our new favorite pizza place is the Italian Pizza place in Epcot, Via Napoli Restorante e Pizzeria.  If you’ve not been there – do it.

*Side Note 2 – what’s the name of my blog again?

Even there, at Epcot – the black olives are exactly the same: little round circles with a hole in the center

As talking about this post, Lisa  questioned me about other toppings:

-Mushrooms – vastly different, some places use the canned version while others use freshly cut

-Onions – also different, some places use chopped while others use longer strands

-Bell Peppers – like onions, sometimes chopped and sometimes in loner strands

-Pineapple – close.  Most places will use chunks or pieces, but I’ve seen other places with the rings.

-Sausage – also different.  One place in Milford has thin sliced pieces while other places have it in small pieces resembling hamburger

I’m sure there are many other constants, but that’s for another blog.

So for now, it’s “Death, Taxes and Black Olives”
