Worst of the Worst

A few posts ago, I posted my favorite songs and my favorite albums.  NOW HOLD ON.  The name of my blog is “Because Jim Says”.  And because “I say” then it we can all agree that these are THE best songs and THE best albums.  If you didn’t immediately add those songs to your play lists and listen to them repeatedly, then I understand you are busy bit you’ll be on it soon.  You still have time.

But for every ying – there’s a yang.  For every Ace, there’s a deuce.  For every song you turn the radio up for and play at the top of the volume capacity while you’re driving along, there are also songs that you just can not tolerate.  If these songs are on your playlist – you can now delete them.  I give you permission.  Take the leap.  Listen to what I tell you.

Maybe it’s the words that make no sense.  Maybe it’s the singer’s voice.  Maybe it was cool at once, and maybe you liked it the 1st 256 times you heard it, but now you want to scratch out your ear drums when you hear it.  But whatever the reason, there are songs that I JUST CAN NOT LISTEN TO.

THE Worst Songs.  There are many songs that are irritating, but these 10 are the best of “The Worst of the Worst”:

1) Oh Sherrie – Steve Perry.  Always – A L W A Y S hated this song.  “You should have been gone”- NO NO NO – this song should have been gone.

2) Sister Christian – Night Ranger.  What is “motoring”?  It came out on the heels of “Don’t Tell Me You Love Me” and it got way too much air time.

3) Blinded by the Light – Manfred Mann’s Earth Band.   Lifelong dislike for this song.  I’m sure it’s a lyrical masterpiece, but can’t get past “Revved up like a deuce”.

4) Electric Avenue – Eddie Grant   Not sure why, just don’t like it

5) Mickey – Toni Basil.  Annoying  AF,  period.

6) Wanna Be – Spice Girls.  I’ll tell you what I want, what I really want.  It’s to never hear this song again.

7) Macarena – Los del Rio – Ugh….. just, ugh…..

8) We Built This City – Starship.  Starship, or Starship Enterprise penned some wonderful songs: “Sara” and “Jane” and “Miracles”.  But what were they thinking here.

9) Red Red Wine – UB40.  I’ve never been a fan of English Reggae and this song has always irritated me

10) Come on Eileen – Dexys Midnight Runners.  So many reasons….. so, so many reasons.

Now that we have THAT out of our system – let’s get to something positive.  Let’s talk about something we all agree that it’s the total package of awesomeness.

As we all can agree, the best band ever – EVER – is REM.  There are come that come close.  Rush comes to mind.  The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Zebra also come to mind.  If you are reading this, then you know it’s “Because Jim Says”.   Other than local bands, I’ve seen R.E.M. more than any other act.  I’ve seen them 6 times – all in the 80s.

It was tough only naming 10 and also putting these 10 in an order.

How do you narrow it down to just 10.  I know, right.  But I did it for you, my dedicated reader.  Enjoy – add to your play lists – and …… you’re welcome.

My Top R.E.M. Songs:

  1. These Days – From the Life’s Rich Pageant album – it’s always been my favorite song
  2. World Leader Pretend – Lyrical Genius
  3. Orange Crush
  4. What’s the Frequency Kenneth
  5. Driver 8
  6. Bang and Blame
  7. Losing My Religion – perhaps their most famous song.  Definitely the song that got the most radio play.
  8. Radio Song
  9. I Remember California
  10.  Begin The Begin

There are so many other great R.E.M. songs, but I somehow managed to keep it to 10

These need to be added to your playlists immediately.  You have your assignment.  You’re welcome.
