A Cup is a Cup

I live in a house with 3 ladies.  My wife who adores me and would do anything for me, and my two daughters who worship the very ground I walk on.  Hey, this is my blog, and as the Blog Name suggests, it’s, “Because Jim Says”.

The whole female thing is a mystery to me.  Maybe one day I’ll tackle how to understand women, but if I did that my blog would no longer be a free site.

One of the things I do not understand.  The cups and water bottles.

How many do we need in the house?  I understand you might “need” 1 cup and one water bottle.  Perhaps you might “want” and extra one to use when the first one of choice is dirty, or if you leave one somewhere and can’t get to it, or if you lose it.

For my definition:

  • A glass is one that comes with it’s own straw, one that might have a notch at the end so that it easily stays part of the lid, mainly used in the house.
  • A bottle has it’s own lid that screws on tight and is something that you take out of the house.

I can’t guess how many we own (and when I say “we” I mean them).  Lisa, you know, my wife who adores me, does have her own glass that she uses most of the time.  It’s got a cool curve to it and it’s one straw and a lid that has a rubber rim that is easily removable and stays securely shut.  Charlotte has her own bottle that she takes to school, and it has assorted stickers to (I guess) make it easily identifiable when she’s in school.  But Kate……

I can’t count how many glasses and bottles she has.  Seems when ever she goes somewhere of significance she must come home with a beverage holder to commemorate.  She might like the color, or the shape, or the saying that is on it.

*sidenote* she has a “Friends” coffee mug that is actually pretty cool.

But her glasses and bottles are everywhere.  How many do you “need”.  I think I have rationalized 4.  One of each, a glass and a bottle; and a backup of each.  4.  Four.  That’s it.

That’s all you should have.

Maybe I’ll demand she limit her glass/bottle collection.  I’ll let you know how that turns out.

What started this whole glass/cup/bottle thing was a post I made on Facebook the other day………

You know how everyone has their favorite coffee mug?  I have several that I use.  No particular reason of the 3 I generally use, if I were to lose one from the rotation, it’s doubtful I’d buy another to replace it.  I’d just have the 2.

The main reason I use these 3 is that I like to use my Keurig.

*sidenote 2* when I say “like”, I actually mean “LOVE”.  Have you read on my very first post about my love of my Keurig?

And I am used to the amount of coffee it dispenses and these 3 cups have handle that volume capacity perfect.  It gives me the perfect fill ratio leaving an appropriate empty space to add my creamer of choice and 1 packet of Splenda.

*sidenote 3* I do plan on writing a post soon about my own brand loyalty.

So while these 3 coffee mugs/cups are my go to, they are easily replaceable and I’d be fine if either of them were not in the cabinet.

I know people have their favorite mug/cup for their coffee and I do wonder why?

Maybe it’s the actual mug. Maybe the mug is the perfect fit for your hand. Maybe it’s the size of the mug; not too tall, not too short, not too big of a circumference, not too heavy, not to light and it’s made of a material that you think keeps your coffee hot longer.  Maybe the handle fits your fingers perfectly, not too rounded, not to big and not too small.

Or perhaps it’s what’s on the mug. Maybe a clever saying. Maybe a picture of someone or something you hold dear to your heart.  Maybe it’s a company logo or a business you like.  Or perhaps it was a gift from someone and using it reminds you of that person.

Me, I like my morning cup of coffee. My morning cup of coffee is important to me. It’s MY time to sit in the quiet and enjoy a cup of coffee before I start my day. MY time before I have to deal with anyone/anything.  The cup is involved n my morning routine, but the actual cup itself is irrelevant.  But my morning cup of coffee is important.

*sidnote 4* I’m writing this at 5:33 in the am as I enjoy my morning cup of coffee, this is Berry Much coffee from Swell Joe  Coffee Company, a small batch roaster in the area using a porcelain coffee mug from County Bank we got a dozen years ago when we opened an account.

I want a coffee mug with a picture of a coffee mug on it.  Nothing special, just a picture of a coffee mug on my coffee mug.

Coffee drinkers – are you feelin’ me?
